A Mother’s Final Gift
There are things in life that no one can prepare you for. Watching a mother say goodbye to her son is one of them.
No mother wants to watch her son die. Parents are supposed to go first… or so the saying goes.
I watched my mother sit with him.
Calm.
Present.
Grounded.
A woman who brought him into this world… now sitting beside him as he was leaving it.
You would think a moment like that would break someone.
And yes… the pain was there. You could feel it in the room.
But there was something even bigger.
Unseen…
but felt.
My Mother’s faith.
I watched her lean in close to my brother.
Her hand over his heart.
Whispering to him.
Guiding him.
Telling him he didn’t have to be afraid.
That it was okay.
That he could go.
“Go to the light.”
“Go in peace.”
“You’re not alone.”
She wasn’t speaking from fear. She was speaking from faith.
That’s not easy to understand.
To love someone enough…
to let them go.
Not make it about your pain.
Not ask them to stay.
Just let them move on.
That takes strength.
That takes devotion.
That takes faith that doesn’t shake…
even when everything inside you does.
