Who Is Up There With You?

Who’s up there with you?

The crew in your head.

The overthinker.
The one that just wants to feel good.
The one trying to keep you in line.
And the one that checked out a while ago.

As you grow older, that “do the right thing” voice starts shaking the very foundation you thought you were built on.

The traditional Jimmy the Cricket voice.
Play it safe.
Don’t mess this up.
Play by the rules.
The habits. The programming.
Conditioned by parents, government, society.

You do start seeing things differently.

It’s not one voice anymore.
Now there are conversations. Dialogues.

It’s not all being run by that “do the right thing” voice.
The one that tells you what you should do.

You start revisiting everything.

Your core principles.
Your values.
All the things you were told.

But now from a different angle.

Some things you thought were wrong don’t feel as wrong anymore.

Some things you thought were right, you see how far they can go and how they turn on you.

So now it’s clear.

There are things you would do.
Things you won’t do.
And things you’ll do just differently.

You’re not kicking Jimmy out.

He knows.

His job was the first half.
Keeping you in line. Keeping you safe.

Now you’re freer.

Not reckless. Not lost.

Just aware enough to choose.

who’s on your team.
