Riding the Waves of Life

Life has its peaks and its valleys.

High moments where everything seems to line up.

Low moments where the swell pulls back and the water feels uncertain beneath your feet.

Most of us spend a good part of our lives trying to avoid the valleys.

We chase the peaks.

We try to stay there.

We try to hold on to the feeling when everything is working and the ride feels smooth.

But life does not work that way.

Just like the ocean, life moves in waves.

Sometimes the swell lifts you higher than you expected.

Sometimes it drops and pulls the water right out in front of you.

Sometimes you read it right.

You feel the pull, commit, and ride the wave.

And sometimes you misread it.

You hesitate, get tossed around, and find yourself underwater.

The mistake many of us make is trying to control the ocean.

We fight the wave.

We panic when the swell rises too high.

We resist when it pulls us down.

But anyone who has spent time in the water understands something important.

You do not control the wave.

You learn to read it.

You watch the water.

You sit and wait.

You pay attention to what is unfolding in front of you.

And when the moment comes, you commit.

Some waves are small.

Some waves are powerful.

Some waves throw you completely off course.

And every person who spends enough time in the ocean learns the same lesson.

After a wipeout, you paddle back out.

Because another wave is always coming.

That is the nature of the ocean.

And it is also the nature of life.

The peaks remind you what it feels like when everything lines up and the ride is clean.

The valleys remind you how to steady yourself when the water gets rough.

Both shape you.

Both teach you.

Both move you forward.

When you stop trying to control the ocean and start learning how to ride the wave, you spend less time fighting life...

...and more time moving with it.
