Mistake or Choice

After looking back at the behavior that came from that version of me, another thought stayed with me.

What’s the difference between a mistake and a choice?

When you’re younger, everything feels like a mistake.

Something happens. Something goes wrong.
You say, “That was a mistake.”

Early on, that’s true.

You didn’t know better.
You reacted.
You were learning.

But over time, patterns start to stand out.

Same feeling.
Different people.
Different situations.

You catch it:
“I’ve been here before.”

That’s awareness.
You see it.
You can’t unsee it.

So the question becomes simple.

Now that I see it, what am I going to do?

That’s where it stops being a mistake.

It becomes a choice.

The first time, you didn’t know.

The next time, you do.

Now it’s on you.

You saw it.
You felt it coming.

So whatever happens next comes from you.

Your behavior isn’t automatic anymore.

It’s chosen.

That’s where growth happens.

Not when life changes.

When you respond differently inside the same situation.

So I don’t look at things as mistakes the same way anymore.

First time is learning.

Every time after that is a decision.

Once you’re aware, it’s not about what happened.

It’s about how you show up.

And that’s always on you.
