A Spoonful of Sarcasm Makes the World Go Down

A spoonful of sarcasm makes the world go down.

Sounds like a catchy song. Well… it is.

Despite being one of my favorite childhood songs, nowadays it’s not sugar that’s helping me get through things day by day.

It’s a full, daily dose of sarcasm.

Every now and then, when I leave my rock…

it’s a shitshow. A circus everywhere I go.

And if I take everything straight up, with no filter, no edge to it… it fucking drains me. And quite frankly, at this point in the second half of my life, I don’t have the patience for this shit.

Mind you, I used to hate sarcasm.

I hated it when it came from my partners, and I hated using it myself. It felt sharp. Dismissive. Like a cut instead of help.

And like a lot of things in life that still baffle me…

somewhere along the way, it just started rolling out of my mouth.

It became part of how I process things.

Yeah, I throw it at people. Sometimes I do. It rolls off my tongue before my mind even catches up.

Depends on the moment. Depends on who’s in front of me.

But most of the time…

it’s internal.

It’s that moment when the shit hits the fan, or things go completely opposite of what I wanted, and instead of taking it all in raw, my mind goes to any of these…

“Of coooourse!”

“Just what I fucking needed.”

“Well, shit… there it goes.”

“Fucking A.”

“Fuckering fuckotash!”

And just like that…

the edge comes off.

Not completely. Just enough.

Enough to keep moving without carrying every piece of it home with me.

Because life doesn’t give a shit.

It moves on whether you like it or not. Ready, caught with your pants down, or fucked sideways.

🎶 A spoonful of sarcasm makes the world go down…

A little “of coooourse!”

A little “well, shit!”

And on we goooo… oh, oh, oh! 🎶
